Reviews for Chez Marcel
Review highlights
Based on 663 reviewsChez Marcel is widely praised for its authentic Parisian ambiance and warm, inviting atmosphere that makes guests feel at home. Reviewers consistently highlight the restaurant’s genuine French charm, cozy interior, and the personable, engaging owner who enhances the dining experience. The cuisine receives high acclaim for its expertly prepared traditional dishes, especially standout items like lamb, duck, escargot, and classic desserts, which leave a lasting impression. Many diners appreciate the balance between quality and authenticity without pretense. While the clientele tends to be local and middle-aged, visitors often feel welcomed and well taken care of, contributing to an overall memorable and comforting French bistro experience in the heart of Paris.
First off, I feel it’s important to highlight that the restaurant felt authentically French and we were welcomed with limited French/primarily English as our spoken language which was so greatly appreciated. The food was absolutely incredible. The fish soufflé was outstanding, I will forever dream of the lamb, and the escargot made me consider ordering seconds and thirds… we were stuffed totally full and still wanted to order more, we were blown away with everything ordered for lunch. Everyone around us had food that also looked incredible. As we were leaving - already raving about lunch, we ran into who I assume was the owner who thanked us for coming and shook both our hands. We felt so welcomed, so well fed, and so thankful that we stopped in. We are already so excited to return when we come back to Paris. Thank you for having us!
As someone who visits Paris every year, this is hands down my favorite local French bistro. The crowd? Mostly middle aged locals- kind of people who just know where the best food is, which pretty much guarantees it’s a winner. The owner is an absolute character, and his energy is so infectious you can’t help but leave in a good mood. And the food? No need for fancy descriptions. just perfectly executed, simple, and packed with flavor. Honestly, I hope this place never blows up with tourists. I want to keep it all to myself. Stay hidden, please! Maybe too late..
We had the absolute pleasure of dining at Chez Marcel, and it was one of the most memorable meals of our trip. The ambiance is warm, authentic, and beautifully Parisian — the kind of place that feels both special and welcoming. The food? Truly outstanding. I had the duck, the lamb, the leeks, and finished with the millefeuille — and every dish was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The duck was tender and rich, the lamb was melt-in-your-mouth good, the leeks were simple but stunning, and the millefeuille was light, flaky, and the perfect end to the meal. Service was gracious and attentive without being overbearing. The Romanian woman and British lad were both so kind and helpful. It’s clear that the staff take pride in what they do, and it shows in every detail. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy classic French cuisine done right. Chez Marcel is a gem!
This place is very homie and cozy and the food is delicious! Owner is friendly, welcoming and funny. There are a lot of places to eat out in Paris but this place makes you feels like home and hits you right where it should.
An absolutely outstanding dining experience!! There is a small, intimate interior with tons of decor all over the walls. We ordered escargot and artichokes for appetizers. Both were delicious, especially the escargot, which might be my new favorite food! Who knew snails could be so scrumptious? As unrefined Americans, we only had water at the table, and a random waiter came up to us and said, “No, no, no, we must get you some wine for your meal!” And he proceeded to ask us what we were having for dinner, what we were in the mood for, etc., to find the perfect wine for us. For the main course, we got a lamb fillet with scalloped potatoes. Both were excellent, especially the lamb which was cooked to perfection and tasted so, so good. For all of that too, the price was reasonable. This is a must try in Paris!!
Tasty food and at a reasonable price. I think we paid around €50 per head and that included wine for starters and mains. No dessert. Friendly service too. Wine was a tad overpriced and whilst the food was good, I remember thinking it could be seasoned a bit more, maybe.
Beautiful rustic atmosphere and friendly staff. Everything we ate was good. I would suggest a nicer plating for the steak. Prices are normal. With the greetings from the kitchen (in the form of salami), we did not receive bread. Nevertheless, a good experience.
The cuisine is really surprising! The meat is well cooked and the sauce is totally stunning that you will want to lick the plates But to finish a 5/5 dinner, the desserts is not recommended at all, it ruin a little the happiness of having such a nice meal! Because it’s already made and assemble together after….
